Gender Reveal Entertainment | Baby Sex Reveal Magician

Recently I got hired to perform as a magician for a gender reveal.
So, what is a gender reveal magician and what is the gender reveal party?
So, it is pretty much what it says on the tin, A party which the proud parents and their guests find out whether the expecting mother will be mother to a new daughter or a new son. Often mom and dad don’t know whether they will be parenting a new boy or a girl. And on this particular occasion, I was given a envelope with the sex of the child to be revealed. So, alongside a wedding, perhaps learning you are pregnant or finding out what kind of child you are getting a boy. A girl is perhaps one of the most special days in your life. And in England, it’s a perfect excuse for a party. It’s a great way to bring your friends and family together and celebrate in the forthcoming birth of the child.
So why hire a magician over other entertainment?
So why a magician as your gender reveal entertainment? Well, a magician can add some extra magic to an already magical day. Sure, the announcement of we are having a baby, it’s going to be a boy, could be fun, or learning the sex of the baby on the day can also be fun. But by finding out beforehand gives you as the proud parents, the opportunity to plan to paint the bedroom blue or pink, to buy the appropriate clothes, and also to mentally prepare yourselves and your friends and family as to whether you are having a boy or girl.
Add in an extra element of mystery to the party!
But not only that, it can add an extra element of magic rather than just have a note on a card or an announcement on social media to say that you are giving birth to a boy, a girl, a magician can incorporate a routine, a magical piece that brings everything together. So, some people do this reveal without a magician.
You could use a confetti cannon, a different colored balloon, but with this, it’s pre-known and pre-planned without the element of surprise needed for gender reveal entertainment. Whereas if you bring in a magician (or indeed another form of entertainment)that I’m not sure what kind of entertainment would help accommodate this, but it makes it into more of an impact.

What exactly does a gender reveal magician do?
In my instance, I built a story around their relationship, and then combined it with a unbelievable magic trick. And the whole routine lasted about 5 minutes. Building up to the climax of whether it was a boy or girl. Having a magician can make the gender reveal into more of an event. For me, I built the event around a story and outlined how they came together when they got married. And more, not only did they experience surprise and wonder, but also their guests did too.
So, what kind of magic does a magician perform at a baby or gender reveal party? Well, there can either be closeup magic or a show with closeup magic or even some digital or tech magic. A magician can mix and mingle with a guest and audience members and attendees at the party to show some closeup magic before finishing with a one-off standalone gender reveal piece in front of everybody. Or you can have a magician make some mingle, and then do a closeup piece in front of everybody. If you are only bringing your truest closest friends together to reveal the sex of your forthcoming baby, sometimes I’m hired to perform both closeup and a show.
So, whilst the big wow moment of the reveal sometimes is only 5 minutes or less dependent on the client, I do perform a longer show of 40 to 45 minutes. And agenda reveal can be built into this as the big climax at the end. It can be a hundred percent customized to include children’s or babies’ names, and is more than just a confetti cannon or a blue or pink balloon. This is all built into a magical story, which will be remembered and associated with the sex of the baby far longer than just the big reveal.

So how do we organize a gender reveal party?
Well, first, we need to consider the amount of friends we’re inviting and who to invite. We might want to invite all of our friends and all of our family, but this can become quite costly. For something as intimate as a gender reveal party, sure, run your wedding day or on a special big birthday, like the birthday, like the 30th, 40th, 50th or 60 birthday party. Invite all of your friends and family, but a more intimate setting to reveal what sex is being brought into the family can be quite beautiful. Nonetheless, a magician and reveal of the baby’s gender sometimes isn’t enough. It’s also important to consider the food and the drinks. Have you got enough food for everybody?
And is there enough alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks for everybody as well? I’m guessing that if you are considering a gender reveal party, you’re at the age where your friends would also have children as well. So, consider if you’ve got some family friendly food for the younger children, not just all cakes and sweets, but food which will be appreciated by little ones as well, as well as pop and soft drinks.
Much like a wedding, perhaps one of the biggest pieces of information needed would be the envelope with the baby’s gender. Forgetting this can result in the magician struggling to perform any magic without knowing what sex it is. On occasion, you might have to even call up the hospital to get authorization as to what it sex it is. In my occasion, the parents didn’t even know. So, this was a reveal for not only them, but the audience as well. It may be worth including some scans, some names, if I’m doing a mentalist or mind reading routine, and some other considerations to build into this bigger routine. As I mentioned before, consider the drinks as well, especially overcompensate on drinks, if it’s going to be outside, and consider refrigerating the food and what kind of food and protective covers as well.
Indoors or outdoors for a gender reveal entertainment party?
Also, if you are organizing a gender reveal party, consider whether you are hosting the party indoors or outdoors. If it’s outdoors, consider the weather. Do you need to provide a gazebo or shelter in case it rains in the unpredictable nature of the British climate? And if you are hosting the party indoors, have you got enough space for the magician to perform? And have you got enough seating area if you’re going to be having a show in front of everybody? And even if you’re not having a show, consider where the gender reveal is going to be taking place. If you are also going to include confetti, cannons and fireworks, there needs to be a consideration of launching these outside as opposed to inside.
What about a gender reveal cake?
And finally, a cake. So, whilst the cake is more often reserved for a birthday, a christening of a wedding—a cake is also perfect for a gender reveal party. However, if you are having a cake, it’s highly likely it has to be neutral. You don’t want to guess too much, whether it’s a boy or a girl and have the wrong cake in hand. Alongside a magician, you could consider additional entertainment to support this. However, for my experience, gender reveal parties are small, intimate affairs, and a band or a DJ can be quite overpowering. However, if you are inviting larger numbers of guests, a DJ or a band can really support the party after the magician has left. More often than not, I get asked to perform for an hour or an hour and a half dependent on the number of guests.
If after a magician has less, the conversation can still keep going with the excited buzz of, have you thought about babies’ names? Or, I’ve got a great little shop where you can buy baby’s clothes from. But you don’t really need any other form of entertainment at a gender reveal party, you might consider the other elements as mentioned before, such as confetti cannons, balloons, lights, sparklers, or fireworks. And it’s all dependent on how big you want to go with a gender reveal.
